Somerset Festival of Remembrance
Come celebrate 80 years since the Second World War ended with the Somerset County Royal British Legion at Wells Cathedral.
As Wells Cathedral hosts the Somerset Festival of Remembrance 2025, a one-of-a-kind event commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, join us for a stirring and poignant evening of remembrance.
This is probably one of the last times that veterans who participated may be in attendance. This special event, which is being organised by the Somerset County Royal British Legion, will honour the bravery, tenacity, and sacrifice made by Somerset residents both domestically and overseas during World War II. Along with contributions from the County’s cadet forces, tributes from veterans and civic leaders, and performances by the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir and the Central Band of the Royal British Legion, the evening will include music, storytelling, and a ceremony. Highlights include a multi-themed program that traces Somerset’s wartime experience from mobilisation to liberation and legacy, an Act of Remembrance with poppies, and the parading of the Somerset Book of Honour. Former BBC broadcasters Clinton Rogers DL and Ali Vowles DL will host the event.
This is a community-focused, open-to-all event that is both sombre and inspiring. Reservations should be made in advance. The Royal British Legion is the beneficiary of all proceeds.
